How to choose the right timber grade for your build

HTTimber

Not all timber is created equal — grade, treatment and moisture content all matter for structural performance and finish.

C16 is a strength-graded structural softwood suitable for most domestic joists, rafters and studwork. C24 has a higher strength rating and is used where longer spans or heavier loads are involved.

For visible or joinery-grade work, PAR (planed all round) is machined smooth on four sides and ready to paint or stain. Tanalised (pressure treated) timber is designed for outdoor or ground-contact use.

If in doubt, ask our trade desk — we'll help you pick the correct spec for your project first time.
